Terms of use
The plain-language ground rules for using Chesswick.
Last updated: May 2026.
What Chesswick is
Chesswick is a chess coaching chat experience powered by AI. It is provided as-is for personal, non-commercial use. By using the site you agree to these terms.
Not affiliated with Chess.com or Lichess
Chesswick is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or otherwise connected to Chess.com, Lichess, or any other chess service or organisation. Trademarks, logos, and brand names referenced on the site belong to their respective owners and are used only to describe what we are talking about.
If you choose to share a Chess.com username with the coach, we look it up using the public Chess.com Published-Data API so the coach can discuss your public games. Chesswick never logs into your Chess.com account, never plays games for you, and cannot make changes on Chess.com or Lichess on your behalf.
AI-generated content
Replies in chat are generated by large language models. They can be incorrect, incomplete, or misleading, especially for concrete lines, evaluations, and tournament-rule edge cases. Treat coaching as opinion, not authority. For competitive play, verify critical lines against an engine or trusted reference before relying on them.
Acceptable use
Please do not use Chesswick to:
- Cheat in live, online, or correspondence games on any platform.
- Submit unlawful, abusive, harassing, or sexual content, or content involving minors.
- Attempt to extract personal data about other people, attack the service, or bypass safety guardrails.
- Resell or redistribute the service, or scrape it for commercial purposes.
We may rate-limit, refuse, or remove access at any time to protect the service or other users.
Your content
You keep ownership of what you type into chat or the contact form. By submitting it, you grant us permission to process it as needed to operate, secure, and improve the service (including sending it to AI providers to generate replies). See the Privacy page for more on how data is handled.
No warranty
The service is provided "as is" and "as available" with no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising from your use of (or inability to use) the service.
Changes
These terms may change as the project evolves. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised terms. Significant changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above.
